Las Vegas' first medical marijuana dispensary opens – SFGate (blog)

Las Vegas’ first legal medical cannabis dispensary opened for business at 10 a.m. today, marking a historic milestone in the development of Nevada’s 17 year-old program. This is no spot on the strip, though.

Euphoria Wellness is in a shopping center next to a dentist and sports bar in southwest Las Vegas Valley, reports state. It opened to 200 invited patients this morning. Media was also on-hand to mark the occasion.

Euphoria had six strains Monday: including Blue Dream, Kosher Kush and San Fernando Valley Kush. The store will stock 27 strains eventually. One customer paid “over $200” for half an ounce of buds. That cost will make some Bay Area patients scoff. Deals on half-ounces can run as low as $60 in California.
“Thanks for the krispy kreme donuts! I am home and well medicated on the kosher kush,” stated one patient to Euphoria on social media.
Nevada has surged ahead of California to approve a statewide system for medical cannabis cultivation and distribution.
Nevadans legalized medical marijuana in 1998 and again in 2000, and the legislature approved dispensaries in 2013. Local and state red tape has held operators back since then.
Officials have approved 40 dispensaries for Clarke County. The state’s first official medical cannabis dispensary opened in Sparks, in July.
California patients should be able to patronize Nevada’s dispensaries under a legal system of reciprocity. However, a California patient must have a condition for which medical cannabis is legal in Nevada.
