State lawmakers consider a marijuana dispensary system

How to buy pot legally was the topic at the State Capitol on Tuesday.

A task force is now looking into creating a dispensary system for medical marijuana users in Hawaii.

Some 13,000 people use medical marijuana here, but there’s still no way for patients to legally buy pot.

The drug was legalized in 2000, but the law is silent on where patients can get seeds to start their own crop.

The State House Health Committee created the group to make recommendations on how the dispensaries would work.

Twenty-two states and DC have laws in place legalizing medical marijuana.  Two of those states do not have dispensaries for patients to get their medication and Hawaii is one of those states.

The task force will meet at least six more times and present findings to the legislature.
