State investigation into Northampton medical marijuana dispensary proposal
Greenfield closing in on marijuana dispensary
NORHTAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A medical marijuana dispensary could be open and operating in Northampton this fall.New England Treatment Access has been in the process of trying to open a medical marijuana dispensary in Northampton for two years. They received approval from the Northampton Building Inspector to house the facility at what used to be a physician’s office at 118 Conz Street.
Massachusetts Department of Public Health spokesman Scott Zoback told 22News that the company has also been approved to grow marijuana at their facility in the southeastern Massachusetts town of Franklin.
Janice Herlihy of Northfield said, “I’ve kind of been surprised at how slowly this process has taken. I know it’s a brand new thing for the state, to be trying to implement and monitor all this, but I think it’s a great option for people that need that kind of care.”
Zoback told 22News the Northampton dispensary is expected to open sometime in September.
Fifteen dispensaries or sites across the state are now in the inspection phase or have been approved for cultivation. NETA has one more inspection for security and regulations concerning how patients get into the building.
