FORT WALTON BEACH — Fort Walton Beach will get its first medical marijuana dispensary this week.
The Miami-based Knox Medical plans to open its new location at 109 Racetrack Road N.E., Unit F, at 11 a.m. Thursday. This is the seventh dispensary to be opened in the state, said Knox Medical spokesman Scott Klenet.
“We’ve already been serving the area through our delivery program,” he said. “Now, with a physical location, patients can come in for one-on-one customer experience. This will be the primary location for Northwest Florida.”
According to a press release, Knox Medical received the highest score in Florida of all nurseries that applied in 2015 for permission from the Florida Department of Health to cultivate, process and dispense low-THC and medical cannabis to eligible patients.
“At every stage in this process, from cultivation, to processing and now to dispensing superior quality medicines at these state-of-the-art facilities, our objective is to redefine excellence in the medicinal cannabis field at every level,” said Jose J. Hildalgo, founder and CEO of Knox Medical in the press release.
Klenet said staff and specialists at Knox Medical will be able to work with patients on the medical marijuana use registry on the various ways to administer medical cannabis. The Fort Walton Beach location is the first in the company’s expansion plans which will double the size of the dispensary network by the end of 2018.
The dispensaries are designed to be a place where patients can feel comfortable, said Klenet.
“It’s like going into any pharmacy,” he said.
