PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Phoenixville’s medical marijuana dispensary will officially open its doors this Friday.
Cure Pennsylvania’s Phoenixville location will be the 10th dispensary to begin operations in Pennsylvania, according to the state. Four more locations have been approved.
The new dispensary, located on 500 Kimberton Road, will hold a celebration at 10 a.m. that includes catering from the nearby Soltane Cafe, and free swag to the first 50 patients of the day, according to Phoenixville Rising.
The Phoenixville dispensary joins two others in the Philadelphia area presently open: there is one in Devon, one in Sellersville. Ilera Healthcare is planning on opening a dispensary in Plymouth Meeting, as well.
Patients who want to access medical marijuana must obtain a physician’s certification from an approved doctor proving that they suffer from one of 17 serious medical conditions. A registration process is then required for patients to receive a medical marijuana card, allowing them access to state-licensed dispensaries.
According to the state, more than 16,600 patients have registered to participate in the medical marijuana program, and more than 3,800 of them have already been certified by a physician.
The state’s medical marijuana program was signed into law in April 2016. Full implementation of the medical marijuana program, including the approval of more locations to sell to patients, is expected at some point in 2018.
