Quincy City Council concurred with plan commission on Monday night to draft an ordiance for a zong change to move in a medical marijuana dispensary.
QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) – Quincy is one step closer to having a medical marijuana dispensary near 48th and Broadway.Council heard a report from the plan commission that recommended the city approve a zoning change that would allow for a medical marijuana dispensary. The change would make the property next to Fazoli’s C2 (commercial) instead of C1B (limited local commercial.)”Essentially, the city’s legal hearing for it,” Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore said. “They [plan commission] make a recommendation to the city council and then we have to either get it into an ordinance form or just concur, so there are certain ones like on Broadway where it needs to be changed by ordinance so tonight the council concurred with the plan commission and had an ordinance drafted.”Council will have the first reading of the ordinance next week.Council also approved a resolution to spend $2.595 million of the Motor Fuel Tax to maintain streets and highways from May 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016 under the Illinois Highway Code.An ordinance that in part would give non-union city employees making under $70,000 a 1.5 percent stipend using extra revenue was also approved.
