The next St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Agency (PZA) meeting on Thursday, April 5 features a zoning request for a new development in St. Johns County, as well as further discussion on the county’s proposed ban of medical marijuana dispensaries.
The request is to rezone approximately 38 acres of land from Open Rural to Planned Unit Development to allow for a future 63-unit, single-family home subdivision called Oak Tree, located east of US Highway 1 North with access provided from Gun Club Road.
Also slated for the PZA meeting, Paolo Soria, the assistant county attorney for St. Johns County, will present a Land Development Code amendment regarding the county’s proposed ban on medical marijuana treatment center dispensing facilities. The ban does not impact the cultivating, process or delivery of medical marijuana in St. Johns County to licensed individuals who need the substance for medical reasons.
On Feb. 20, the Board of County Commissioners voted to begin the process of permanently banning medical marijuana dispensaries in the unincorporated area of St. Johns County. At the April 5 PZA meeting, the Board will either recommend to approve or deny the Land Development Code amendment to ban Medical Marijuana Treatment Center (MMTC) Dispensing Facilities.
The meeting will take place in the County Auditorium at the St. Johns County Administrative Complex, located at 500 San Sebastian View in St. Augustine. The meeting is open to the public.
