AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Monday marked the grand opening of the RISE Amherst marijuana dispensary, the first of its kind in Amherst.
RISE Amherst is part of Green Thumb Industries, a national marijuana cultivator, processor and dispensary operator based in Chicago.
Massachusetts Market President Matt Yee told 22News that, although he has received a lot of disagreement over the business, he’s just looking to help the community in a positive way.
“There is a lot of controversy in what we do, even at the federal level,” Yee explained. “But even every day, we see ground being covered there. But operational wise we are like any other business, little more added security and a couple other things that we handle.”
RISE Amherst offers cannabis in its flower form, topical creams, and patches, as well as edibles.
Amherst will receive three percent of its annual gross sales. The company employs nearly 30 people from the area.
RISE Amherst will also be a retail store for recreational cannabis this summer once the commercial license is activated.
